Dear All,

I hope that you are keeping well and staying safe. As we head into Autumn and brace ourselves for the coming winter months, Merseyside has now implemented local Covid restrictions and the UK has increased the Alert Level to 4 meaning “a high or rising level of transmission – enforced social distancing.” Whilst this all sounds rather daunting it is even more important to keep in touch and to avoid feeling isolated.

I hope that you have been able to keep in touch with your family and friends. However, if you need someone to talk to please do ring Karen or Paula. All phone calls to the office are being picked up and they would be delighted to hear from you.
I am pleased to report that, in spite of all the challenges, the Owen Owen Trust is continuing to work hard on your behalf. Both Karen and Paula have been working successfully from home since March and it has been very much business as usual with all grants continuing to be paid and the Trustee meetings taking place via Zoom. Whilst we hope that Karen and Paula will return to the office soon you will understand that they will not be able to receive visitors.

Over the Summer we were very pleased to launch our new website and have had very positive feedback so far. If you haven’t had a chance to look at it yet then please go to www.owenowentrust.org.uk We would appreciate your feedback and memories of your time at Owen Owen.

Please email Paula.Woosey@owenowentrust.org.uk with your memories and any photographs you have as we are hoping to compile these into a memories project to post on the History page of our website. You can also post your memories and photographs on our Facebook page. Some of you have already done this and we are collecting some wonderful photographs and stories.
We would also be interested in gathering some audio recordings of your memories. So if you are technically savvy or have a relative or friend who is then please do record your memories on your smartphone and send them to us. We

have a number of centenarians and it would be great if we were able to capture some of your memories for our memories project.
I should add that if emails, websites and smartphones are still a mystery to you we are delighted to receive letters by good old fashioned post!

Sadly we have been unable to hold any of our events since March and we very much regret this as we know how much you all enjoy our Afternoon Teas. I’m sorry to say that it also looks increasingly unlikely that we will be able to go ahead with any of our Christmas events either. Obviously if this changes (and a miracle happens) we will be in touch with you.

I am personally hoping that winter passes in a flash so we can look forward to Spring 2021 when we hope we will be able to hold Afternoon Teas again. We also have plans in Liverpool for Moira McLoughlin from Dementia Friends to join us and tell us more about her work and following the success of the Physiotherapy/Falls Prevention in Liverpool last March we plan to hold another of these events next year in Preston. We have also had some interest from our former employees at the Owen Owen Finchley store in a reunion and if there is sufficient interest then the Trust can look at holding an event in London next year when it is safe to do so.

Please don’t forget that if you need to replace any domestic electrical goods or carpets or to do any painting or decorating then the Trust may be able to help you with an additional grant. Please phone the office on 0151 237 3985 or email either Karen or Paula if you are interested in applying and they will be able to talk you through the process.
Please keep in touch and let us know what you are doing ………. We love to hear from you.
Best Wishes

Kay Eggleton
