Founded in 1900 by Owen Owen to provide help to employees, ex-employees and their dependants in financial need.

Today the Trust is administered by Trustees who worked for the Owen Owen Group, as well as descendants of the Trust founder.

Our Mission & Vision

We are a grant giving Trust, we also host a number of social events during the year. We hold a series of Summer afternoon teas as well as an annual Christmas Lunch.

Volunteers

Our Owen Owen volunteer visitors do a fantastic job keeping in touch with our beneficiaries and organising afternoon teas and Christmas lunches in their respective areas. We are very appreciative of their efforts as the Trust couldn’t operate without them.

The Owen Owen Trustees are as follows

Kay Eggleton (Chair)

Kay joined Owen Owen in 1985 as Financial Controller before becoming Group Finance Director and Company Secretary. She was based firstly at Head Office in London Road then at Lewis’s in Liverpool. She left in 1993 but returned in 2002 as a Trustee of the Owen Owen and TJ Hughes Pension Funds and the Owen Owen Trust.

Amanda Gibbon

Amanda is the great granddaughter of Owen Owen and succeeded her father David Owen as a trustee of the Owen Owen Trust in 2023. Amanda’s retail experience is working as a student in her Christmas vacation for a few weeks in the menswear department at the Richmond store. 

 

John Barker

John joined the Owen Owen Chester store in 1970 as a graduate trainee. He spent 39 years with the company working with over 40 stores and 5 owners and had 10 different job titles ending up as Finance Director at Head Office. He become a trustee in 2000 and handles the budgeting and financial aspects of the Trust.

Len Foster

Len joined the Owen Owen computer department as a programmer in 1967 and was involved in what was then the “Steam Age” of computing. He left in 1970 to work abroad but returned to Owen Owen in 1972 as a Systems Analyst and eventually became head of the IT function. He retired in 2001 having spent over 30 years with the company and now feels privileged to serve as a trustee of the Owen Owen Trust.

Alan Turner

Alan joined the Owen Owen Liverpool store in 1963 as a junior salesman in the menswear department where he eventually became department manager. He worked at TJ Hughes in Bootle and London Road before transferring back to Owen Owen Liverpool as Deputy General Manager. In 1975 he was appointed General Manager at Newport where he spent three years. He worked in the Bath, Richmond, Southampton and Preston stores before returning to Liverpool’s Lewiss store as Store Director. He retired in 2009.

Liz Stewardson

Liz joined Owen Owen from university in 1971 as a Personnel Trainee and after six weeks training in Liverpool’s Clayton Square store was promoted to the Erdington store. Between 1974 and 1990 she worked as Personnel Manager in Preston, Southampton, Slough and Stoke Gardens, Coventry and Torrington Avenue. She then joined TJ Hughes to work on the company restructuring plans. Her regional role led her to work in nearly all of the companies stores during her career. She became a trustee in 1993.

Bob Warren

Bob joined TJ Hughes in 1969. He has held various management posts in many of the companies stores around the country. These include TJ Hughes in both Birkenhead and Bootle, Owen Owen stores in Shrewsbury, Coventry, Wolverhampton and Southport’s Broadbents & Boothroyds. He was Store Director of Lewiss Liverpool and finally Store Director of Owen Owen’s Chester store. He left the company in 1999 and became a trustee in 2014.

Sue Mitchell

Sue joined the Owen Owen Personnel department in Liverpool in 1976. She worked for the company for 30 years before taking early retirement in July 2006. She was appointed a Pension Trustee in November 1996 before being invited to join the Owen Owen board.

Rosie Lochiel-Owen

Rosie is the great-granddaughter of Owen Owen and became a Trustee in 2016. She has a keen interest in mental and physical wellbeing, in particular the social care that the Trust facilitates.
