Every year we are able to help former employees. 

This may be for one-off small grants for essential items or regular grants to assist with living costs.”

You may qualify for a grant if you satisfy some criteria. 

  • Be a former employee of Owen Owen or TJ Hughes (prior to 1991 only) or a lease/concession within a store.
  • Be over 60 years old  
  • Satisfy our income criteria

If you feel you may qualify, then we can post or email you a form, so we can get more detail of your circumstances and see how we can help. 

Don’t need assistance?

We have a network of volunteer visitors across the country, who organise afternoon teas and Christmas Lunches. There could be one taking place in your area soon. Get in touch with the office to find out more.

Age UK

Age UK aims to create a world where older people can live their lives free from poverty, isolation and neglect. It raises awareness of issues affecting older people in the UK and oversees, researches and campaigns for changes in policy and practice and offers practical support to disadvantaged older people.

Citizens Advice Bureau - CAB

Provides advice and information people need for the problems they face and improves the policies and practices that affect people’s lives. Provides advice such as debt management, welfare benefits, housing, immigration and asylum, employment, consumer complaints and landlord tenant disputes.

The National Health Service - NHS

The NHS seeks to improve the health and wellbeing of patients, communities and its staff through professionalism, innovation and excellence in care.

Department of Work and Pensions DWP

The DWP is responsible for welfare, pension and child maintenance policy. It administers the State Pension and a range of working age, disability and ill health benefits.

The Campaign to End Loneliness

The Campaign to End Loneliness is a network of national, regional and local organisations and individuals working through community actions, good practice, research and policy to tackle loneliness in older age.

Dementia Friends

A Dementia Friend is someone who learns about dementia so that they can help their community. Dementia Friends help by raising awareness and understanding about dementia so that those living with it can continue to live in the way they want.

The Silver Line

The Silver Line is the only free confidential helpline providing information, friendship and advice to older people, open 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
